Southeastern College continued their legacy of giving during the 2019 holiday season. Southeastern campuses in Miami Lakes, Fla., and West Palm Beach, Fla., joined forces with local charities to brighten the holidays for families throughout South Florida.
The Miami Lakes campus kicked off the giving season in November by partnering with HOPE Outreach Center to provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need. In all, the campus donated 400 lbs. of food and more than $200 so that seven families could enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
Southeastern College Miami Lakes stayed in the giving spirit throughout December, again partnering with HOPE Outreach Center to provide holiday gifts for three families in Broward County. Faculty and staff donated new gift items totaling $500 and wrapped them so children could have presents under the tree on Christmas morning.
“I am so proud of our faculty, staff and students for helping HOPE Outreach with their holiday giving this year,” said Julia Corona, Southeastern College President. “We are happy to continually serve our community through our partnership with Hope Outreach Center.”
HOPE Outreach Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501c (3) organization founded in 1995. The Davie, Florida, based center offers an immediate ‘hand up’ to people in the Broward County community who find themselves unable to make ends meet. HOPE Outreach Center often serves as the financial and emotional bridge that allows families in crisis to return to self-reliance and independence quickly and comfortably.
Southeastern’s West Palm Beach campus was equally involved in holiday giving this year. In November, students and staff donated food items and money to support Thanksgiving meals for fellow students. In December, the campus partnered with the United Way of Palm Beach County for their annual holiday toy drive. Faculty, staff, and students donated new gift items to brighten the Christmas morning of children throughout Palm Beach County.
