Course Description:

This is an instructor led course delivered onsite at your facility to educate hospital staff working in specialty areas where invasive and non-invasive procedures are performed. The implementation of this course can assist your facility in lowering infection rates and improve physician satisfaction. The course is based on AORN’s Standards and Recommended Practices and is designed to create awareness regarding sterile technique and patient safety.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify the Joint commission goals for patient safety
  • Identify surgical attire
  • Define aseptic & sterile technique
  • Recall risk factors that may contribute to post procedure infections
  • Discuss principles and types of sterile draping
  • Review medication safety/labeling
  • Review the handling of specimens
  • Discuss procedural environment
  • Discuss positioning safety
  • Review skin prep agents/technique
  • Identify the areas to be cleaned in the procedural area
  • Identify the clinical manifestation of latex allergies
  • Discuss the purpose and procedure for scrubbing, gowning and gloving
